With 10-foot-high ceilings and walls finished in classic board and batten, the home exudes a timeless elegance. While the kitchen and bathrooms have been thoughtfully remodeled, the rest of Hale Keo Keo retains its original allure, inviting you to step back in time and immerse yourself in its storied past.

One of the most remarkable features of Hale Keo Keo is its unique position on the North Shore. Built on a concrete sea wall installed by the military, this home is the only one that extends farther out onto the beach. Standing on the front deck, you’ll feel as if you’re on the bow of a ship, surrounded by the endless expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Our history is deeply intertwined with significant moments. We once received a letter from a man who sat on the front deck during the bombing of Pearl Harbor, witnessing Japanese planes flying over the bay—a powerful reminder of the events that have shaped our world.

We are Marilyn and Gary, and we've been married for 57 wonderful years. Marilyn is an artist, and Gary is a consultant specializing in green building. For the past 28 years, our charming beachfront home, Hale Keo Keo, has been a magical haven where we've watched our three daughters and seven beautiful granddaughters grow through all stages of life. Surrounded by the serene beauty of Kawela Bay, our home has been filled with laughter, creativity, and cherished memories.

What makes waking up here so special is the experience of gazing through our old wooden windows that wrap around two sides of the bedroom. From this unique vantage point, you can watch the sunrise over the ocean while listening to its gentle song. It’s a tranquil moment that fills my heart with peace and joy.

At Hale Keo Keo, we are guided by the spirit of ohana—the Hawaiian concept of family, which extends beyond blood relations to include friends and loved ones. Paradise!

We had a wonderful time at your place. It is the best for all the little ones we had with us. Over the time we stayed, we had five of our six children and their families come and stay with us. It is so great to let them play on the beach and in the water without worrying about them getting knocked over by the surf. The house and cabin are just the best. They are so accommodating to our group. We had more time this trip to appreciate all your artwork. It is amazing and we were even able to make it through the month without any of the little ones breaking any of it. We love the North Shore.

An Gem on Kawela Bay

This was a vacation to celebrate my significant birthday year with our 3 married children their spouses and our 5 grandchildren. The 2 houses were perfect for 13 people. The location could not have been better...right on the ocean that provided swimming, paddle boarding and kayaking. Our families had the opportunity to further bond with each other creating memories that will last a lifetime. Kawela Bay ,a private protected location on the north shore was close to world surfing competitions and the wooded walk to the Turtle Bay resort and the historic banyan tree. We were also fortunate to witness the filming of the television series Hawaii -Five - O.

Plenty of Space For Our Large Group

This was the perfect setting for our family reunion! The historic charm of the property and its prime location on Kawela Bay made our stay unforgettable. With two beautiful homes and the cozy Surfer’s Quarters, there was plenty of space for our group of 13 to relax and connect.

We loved spending time on the private crescent beach, where the calm waters were ideal for the kids to play safely. The main house and the cottage offered all the comforts we needed, and the outdoor shower in the Surfer’s Quarters was a hit!

Marilyn and Gary’s warm hospitality and thoughtful touches made our stay truly special. Their local tips and attentive care helped us make the most of our time in the North Shore area.

Spending Christmas at Hale Keo Keo was an incredible experience! We were pleasantly surprised by how wonderful a Hawaiian Christmas can be. The big winter waves at the nearby surf spots were thrilling, and the warm weather provided a perfect escape from the cold.

The property’s prime beachfront location allowed us to enjoy stunning ocean views and spend quality time on the sand. I particularly loved that the Wi-Fi was strong and reliable, so I could work from home while keeping an eye on my little ones as they played in the surf.

At this time, our rental period is set for 30 days. We’ve found that hosting one group at a time for a longer stay helps us preserve the historic charm and quality of Hale Keo Keo. Our home, with its rich history and unique character, thrives under careful stewardship. To maintain this, we choose to limit our rental periods and avoid high turnover, in line with state-mandated policies.

Is there parking available on the property?

Yes, there is parking available on the property for up to 4 cars. Please note that the parking spaces are open-air and are not covered by garages or carports.

What is the policy on cancellation and refunds?

We're delighted to share our serene home with you. Please review our deposit and refund policy to ensure a smooth process:

1. Reservation Deposit

- To hold your reservation, a non-refundable fee of $5000 is required. In the rare case that you might have to cancel your booking, a refund may be possible if we can find another group to take your exact dates.

2. Remaining Balance

- The remaining balance must be paid 60 days before the check-in date.

3. Security Deposit

-An additional security deposit of $2,000 is required. The $2,000 security deposit will be refunded within 14 business days of departure, provided there is no damage or breakage to the property or its contents

4. Cancellations

- Given the exclusive nature of our property, cancellations are only accepted if we are able to re-rent the home for the exact dates of your reservation. If we cannot secure a new booking, the reservation deposit will not be refunded. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

- Please remove your shoes upon entering the house. This helps us maintain cleanliness and respects the traditional Hawaiian way.

2. Registered Guests Only

- Only the guests who are registered at the time of booking may stay at the home. For the safety and comfort of all, no unregistered guests are allowed on the property.

3. No Large Parties or Weddings

- Our home is intended for quiet relaxation. Large gatherings, parties, and events such as weddings are not permitted.

4. Quiet Hours

- Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 8 AM. During these times, please keep noise to a minimum to respect our neighbors who also cherish the tranquility of Kawela Bay.

5. Respect Our Neighbors

- We share this beautiful bay with many residents who value the peace and quiet of the area. Please be considerate in your activities and noise levels at all times.

6. No Smoking or Vaping

- Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside the house and on the property.

7. Pets

- We currently care for two local, outdoor kitties. Food will be provided for them. Having them around brings a bit of home to the island experience. However, no other pets are allowed to maintain the cleanliness and serenity of our home.

8. Respect the Property

- Please treat our home with care and respect. Report any damages or issues to us promptly so we can address them.

9. Waste Management

- Dispose of trash properly in the designated bins. Please hHelp us keep our environment clean and beautiful.
